The father-daughter medical team of Dr. Lawrence Carter and registered nurse Diana Carter have both been helping treat Covid-19 patients at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset amid the pandemic. They were recognized by Senator Todd Kaminsky as Helpers of the Week.

Lawrence answered the call for physicians to help assist at hospitals when coronavirus cases started mounting in New York. He left his private internist practice of 26 years and began administering treatment to patients in the ICU.

Diana, a 2014 graduate of South Side High School, recently received her nursing degree from SUNY Binghamton and was training to be an O.R. nurse at North Shore, when she was quickly transferred to a medical unit managing patients suffering from Covid-19 and dealing with coronavirus-related tragedies and difficult situations regularly.

“Service and sacrifice runs in the blood of this family and their selflessness in the face of a mounting crisis shows how committed they are to their profession and neighbors,” Kaminsky said. “They represent our amazing healthcare professionals, first responders and essential workers who have stepped us and made us so proud during this unprecedented time.”

"Northwell draws its strength from the dedication and sacrifice of front line workers like the Carter family,” said Jon Sendach, executive director of North Shore University Hospital. “State Senator Kaminsky's recognition of their heroism is a welcome reminder of how much the community appreciates their efforts."
