The roughly 40-member Atlantic Beach Rescue all-volunteer emergency unit was named Nassau County Regional Emergency Medical System Agency of the Year for 2018, Assistant Chief Jonathan Kohan said.

“We were informed [on Sept. 16] that AB Rescue was awarded Nassau County’s EMS Agency of the Year for 2018,” Kohan said. “The team could not have done it without the support of our elected officials, mutual aid partners and financial supporters. Thank you for all you have done to keep us providing a great quality of service to our residents.”

The rescue unit responds to water emergencies and trains with FDNY, Nassau County fire departments and the U.S. Coast Guard. The Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department, one of the departments Atlantic Beach works with, was one of the two honorable mentions for the same award.
