Town of Hempstead hosts drive-in movie nights, concert series

Residents will be able to travel back in time or rock their socks off at a series of drive-in movie nights and concert engagements this summer, hosted by the Town of Hempstead. 

Town officials announced the schedules earlier this month, which kicked off with a concert by 70s cover band 45RPM at Point Lookout Park on July 6 and a free showing of "Dirty Dancing" at West Hempstead's Echo Park on July 7.

"Our township remains committed to keeping residents safe and healthy as we begin reopening our community, and this drive-in format will allow us to achieve that goal while also providing a great program for our residents," said Town Supervisor Donald Clavin.

All concerts will be held at Point Lookout Town Park starting at 8 p.m. Guests are encouraged to arrive early, as town employees will be taking extra precautions to keep everyone safe. The schedule of concerts is as follows:

Friday, July 17 — "FREEBIRD" plays the music of Lynyrd Skynyrd

Saturday, July 18 — "Material Girl" featuring Amber Ferrari plays the music of Madonna and Lady Gaga

Monday, July 20 — "Sir Elton" plays the music of Elton John

Wednesday, July 22 — "Hokis Pokis" will provide a magical night of music

Friday, July 24 — "That’s Amore" with Jenna Esposito will play Italian favorites

Saturday, July 25 — "Ladies of Motown" will take the stage

Monday, July 27 — "Badlands" plays the music of Bruce Springsteen

Wednesday, July 29 — "Desert Highway" plays the music of the Eagles

Friday, July 31 — "Hour Glass" plays the music of James Taylor

Saturday, Aug. 1 —  "Bad Animals" plays the music of Heart

Monday, Aug. 3 —  "Beginnings" plays the music of Chicago

Wednesday, Aug. 5 — Jerome “City” Smith plays the music of Motown

Friday, Aug. 7 — "Strange Magic" plays the music of Electric Light Orchestra

Saturday, Aug. 15 — "Wonderous Stories" plays eclectic rock music

Monday, Aug. 17 — "Endless Summer" plays the music of the Beach Boys

Wednesday, Aug. 19 — "The Devotions" will rock Point Lookout Beach

Friday, Aug. 21 — "Shining Star" will play the music of Earth, Wind and Fire

Saturday, Aug. 22 — "Songs in the Attic" will play the music of Billy Joel

All concerts and movies are open to town residents on a first-come, first-served basis. Guests must remain in their vehicles and follow all town safety guidelines. Instructions will be provided upon arrival on how to tune your radio station to hear the concert or movie audio inside your vehicle.
