Children enjoy Chinese New Year at the Locust Valley Library

Posted

Chinese New Year officially began Feb. 5 but because it’s never too early to have fun the Locust Valley Library held its celebration for children a bit earlier, on Feb 2. It is the Year of the Pig, so out of respect for the mammal, children learned to make beef dumplings, tasted spring rolls and ate fortune cookies too. The holiday is known for its pageantry, so they were also given an opportunity to make fans and Peking opera masks, while enjoying a small group of singers who provided a concert of Chinese music.
