The fate of John F. Kennedy High School’s year-end events is still up in the air, but on May 1, seniors were back at the building for a day of celebration.
In lieu of traditional senior events, the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District organized parking lot parades for the graduating seniors in each of the three high schools. Although Kennedy’s prom and graduation are indefinitely postponed, the parade was an opportunity for teachers to give a celebratory send-off to their students.
Seniors decked their cars in school mottos, messages of thanks to teachers and the logos of their future colleges and universities. On the sidelines, while sat outside and atop their cars, teachers honked and waved congratulatory signs.
Some parade-goers even got emotional, as the teachers were seeing their students for one of the last times before the spring semester ends.
