Road workers discovered a dead body in the woods on the west side of Meadowbrook State Parkway near Babylon Turnpike on Dec. 16, New York state police said.
Police identified the victim as 37-year-old James Graham, of Jamaica, Queens. Graham's body was found wrapped in a tarp on the shoulder of exit M7W. His death was the result of a gunshot wound.
Officials cordoned off the area around 9:30 a.m., with cruisers blocking the two southbound exit ramps at Babylon Turnpike.
Crime scene investigators searched the outskirts of the woods near East Meadow Brook, with cameras and measuring tape in hand, combing the grassy shoulder for evidence. Investigators later set up a black partition tent on the shoulder of the exit ramp, and removed Graham's body from the scene.
The ongoing investigation is being handled as a homicide, and is being conducted by state police. Officials are asking anyone with information to call (631) 756-3300.
