Second annual talent show in West Hempstead

Performers of all ages showed off their talents in front of family and friends at Hall’s Pond Park on Sunday in the West Hempstead Community Support Association’s second annual “West Hempstead’s Got Talent.” Roughly 100 residents gathered around the park’s gazebo to watch a variety of acts that included singers, comedians and musicians competing for bragging rights and prizes.

“We had another great turnout, and it was a hard decision for judges to choose a winner with all the talent that we had this year,” said Aisha Crumpton, vice president of the Civic Association. She added that some of the performers got gigs from last year’s show, and that the event has continued to grow.

West Hempstead High School sophomore Kai-Enne Sohan, 14, won first place in this year’s talent show as she sang “Words Fail” from the musical, “Dear Evan Hanson.” Sohan, who aspires to become an actress for Broadway musicals, admitted that she was little nervous when she performed, but became more comfortable as the show went on.

“I just got lost in the music. I’m grateful to have this opportunity,” Sohan said.

The WHCSA’s next event is a performance from the Long Island Harmonizers Barber Chorus at Hall’s Pond Park on July 28, at 6 p.m.
