Lakeview man arrested for incident at Nassau University Medical Center

Nassau County police reported the arrest of a Lakeview resident for an incident at the Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow on March 21.

According to police, Paul Simmons, of 8 Rhodes Lane, entered Nassau University Medical Center, at 10:38 p.m. through an employee entrance with his girlfriend to help her seek treatment for a minor injury. While in the waiting room, Simmons, 58, was approached by a security guard and was advised that only patients were allowed in the hospital and no visitors are permitted due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Simmons allegedly became irate and threatened the security guard, while displaying a taser and waving it in his direction. The male victim, 53, feared for his safety and called police.

Upon police arrival, Simmons was located outside the building a short distance away and was placed into custody without further incident. No other injuries were reported.

Simmons was charged with menacing in second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree. He was arraigned March 22 at the First District Court in Hempstead.
