The choice is Laura Burns in the 6th Legislative District

Posted

Having served as the 6th District legislator since 2015, William Gaylor has worked to introduce several bills for the betterment of his constituents.

Gaylor, of Lynbrook, has shown that he is knowledgeable on the issues surrounding the 6th Legislative District, but saying that you’re aware just isn’t enough. We need solutions, which he came up short on.

Meanwhile, his challenger, Rockville Centre resident Laura Burns, showed a greater willingness to address 6th District issues than did her opponent. Burns became a gun-control advocate six years ago after the gruesome Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Conn. The day after Sandy Hook, she turned to Facebook and helped organize the group Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. Burns has been in charge of the group’s communication and outreach ever since.

Given the group’s vocal advocacy, we believe Burns has the communication skills needed not only to keep her constituents informed, but also to make a solid case for any legislation that she might propose. Moreover, we believe she would not be a single-issue candidate, given her extensive knowledge of the myriad issues facing 6th District residents. We were also impressed by her knowledge of government, which was not surprising given her advocacy background.

Burns said she would take on issues from damaged roads to poor building infrastructure. We trust that the passion for change she expressed during her campaign would carry into her first term.

Gaylor spent considerable time bashing County Executive Laura Curran over reassessment, but offered little in the way of solutions to the 6th District’s — and Nassau County’s — most trying issues.

We urge 6th District residents to choose Burns when voting.
