About 80 Lynbrook and East Rockaway residents partied like it was 1918 and celebrated the end of World War I at the Historical Society of East Rockaway and Lynbrook’s 15th annual Winter Tea fundraiser on Jan. 27 at the Lynbrook Public Library.
At the event, Girl Scouts and East Rockaway Junior-Senior High School Key Club members served tea and food that was popular at the time — including bean salad, sandwiches and Hershey Kisses — to the guests at 20 tables. Those in attendance also listened as World War I historian Tom Miccio shared stories about the war and entered raffles to help raise more then $2,000 for the historical society.
“It was very successful,” said HSERL President Patricia Sympson.
Sympson said that all the money raised would go back into the community through historical society events and scholarships for high school seniors.
