MLK Center shut again, this time over failing to provide Covid safety plan

The MLK Center in Long Beach is closed to outsiders after it failed to provide city officials with a plan to keep the building safe from Covi 19, city and MLK officials have said.

The center received a notice from the city earlier this week that children and adults could not enter the building, but the administrative staff was allowed in, the officials said.

James Hodge, chairman of the MLK Center, said he was studying the city's order and could not immediately comment further.

It was the second time in five months the center has been shuttered. In May, the city locked the building's doors after building inspectors discovered a fire alarm was not working., The center was closed for several days until the alarm was fixed.

Children use the center's computers after school, and the center provides food to people in need.
