Long Beach City Council President John Bendo is urging residents to properly dispose of their masks and gloves after usage.

“I can’t believe I have to say this, if you wear a mask, glove or any other form of PPE, please dispose of them properly,” Bendo said in a Covid-19 update to residents on Monday. “The amount of used items we’ve found throughout the City is not only disgusting, but it also poses a public health threat.”

The Long Beach Fire Department also released a message on their Facebook page asking residents not to litter.

“Littering is not only illegal and terrible for our environment, the Covid-19 virus can live on these surfaces for hours or days, putting even more people at risk who clean up your litter,” the LBFD said. “Let’s all do our part in staying safe and healthy!”
