Kaminsky honors Long Beach’s Chas Thompson as “Helper of the Week”

State Sen. Todd Kaminsky recognized Chas Thompson, an EMT, volunteer firefighter and Long Beach lifeguard, as “Helper of the Week” for his essential work providing lifesaving emergency medical services during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Following a successful 24-year career at J.C. Penney, Thompson switched careers and began working for Catholic Health Services as an emergency medical technician. Thompson is no stranger to emergency services and volunteers for the Lido Beach-Point Lookout Fire Department — where he previously was Chief of Department — while serving as a Long Beach lifeguard as well.

“Chas’ selfless career of service and dedication represents the best of our healthcare workers, first responders and essential employees,” Kaminsky said. “From saving lives on the front lines as an EMT, to protecting our community in the fire department, to working to safely reopen our beaches, Chas has gone above and beyond the call of duty during this pandemic. I am proud to honor him as “Helper of the Week” and salute his work to keep our community safe and protected.”

Each week, Kaminsky will highlight an exemplary 9th District neighbor who is going above and beyond to help their communities deal with the coronavirus outbreak. If you feel someone in your neighborhood is worthy of distinction, call the Senator’s office at (516) 766-8383.
