H. Frank Carey High School will remain closed until Nov. 30, Sewanhaka Central High School District Superintendent James Grossane announced on Nov. 20, after two students tested positive for the coronavirus.

The students were “present at many non-school activities taking place beyond our control,” Grossane said, “ making the number of students involved too large to keep school open.” They will instead learn remotely during the week-long closure, and any student that attends Career and Technical Education classes must attend those virtually as well.

In the meantime, the school will be deep cleaned, and Nassau County Health Department officials will continue to conduct contact tracing, and reach out to those who need to quarantine.

“While students have done an exemplary job in school maintaining social distance and wearing their masks,” Grossane wrote to parents, “please be sure to reinforce with your children good hygiene habits, mask wearing and maintaining social distance while not in school.”
