The U.S. Coast Guard evacuated a 44-year-old man from a Greek-flagged tanker off the coast of Long Beach on Friday after he suffered from abdominal pains, Coast Guard officials said.

Local command center watchstanders were notified that the man aboard the 600-foot tanker, Minerva Grace, required medical attention at around 10:30 p.m.

The watchstanders briefed the flight surgeon, who recommended the medical evacuation, Coast Guard officials said. An Air Station Atlantic City MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew arrived, safely hoisted the crewmember and brought him to John F. Kennedy International Airport. He was then transported to Jamaica Hospital in Queens by EMS.

The man’s condition is unknown, Coast Guard officials said.
