A car collision on Wednesday night resulted in a vehicle overturning in front of the Pier 1 Imports on East Park Avenue, according to Long Beach Fire Department officials.

Long Beach Police Department spokesman Sgt. Brett Curtis said that the driver of a vehicle traveling westbound on East Park Avenue attempted to make an illegal left turn on Long Beach Road and subsequently struck another car heading eastbound, causing it to overturn.

A fire department ambulance was on the scene at 7:23 p.m., just two minutes after receiving the call, Long Beach Fire Commissioner Scott Kemins said. He added that the driver of the overturned vehicle managed to get out of the car before the fire department arrived on the scene. The driver was treated on the scene for head injuries and transferred to Mount Sinai South Nassau hospital for further evaluation.

Kemins added that the other driver involved in the collision was evaluated on the scene and refused further medical attention.

No other individuals were injured in the crash and Curtis said no criminal activity was suspected in the collision.
