Five South Shore fire departments responded to a house fire at 1930 Bay Blvd. in Atlantic Beach on Feb. 9.

The Long Beach Fire Department received a call for the fire at 9:21 p.m. According to Long Beach Fire Commissioner, Scott Kemins, the fire started in the attic and caused substantial damage to the roof. “The fire burned through portions of the roof,” he said. “The smoke and water is what severely damaged the roof.” Nobody was home at the time of the fire, one Long Beach firefighter was taken to the hospital with a sprained ankle.

The Inwood, Lawrence-Cedarhurst, Woodmere and Island Park fire departments also responded to the scene.

Kemins added that the fire did not appear to be suspicious but it is under further investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshal and Police Arson Bomb Squad.
