Oceanside's $160M school budget, $33.5 million library bond approved

When mail-in ballots were counted late Tuesday night, Oceanside voters approved the school district and library budgets, a bond for the library and showed support for all three Board of Education members who ran uncontested. 

Voters approved the district's $160 million budget, which had a tax levy increase of $130 million, a 3.3 percent increase from the 2019-20 school year. The budget garnered 4,958 "yes" votes to 2,851 "no" votes.

Voters also approved the Oceanside Library's $6.9 million budget, which included the $33.5 million Vision 2020 bond proposal, with 54 percent "yes" votes.

A proposition to withdraw no more than $3.4 million from the district's capital reserve fund was also approved. The funds will complete renovation of all Oceanside High School science labs. Some labs date back decades.

Board of Education President Sandie Schoell and Trustees Donald Maresca and Mary Jane McGrath-Mulherne, each ran unopposed for another term. Scholl received 5,677 votes, while Maresca garnered 5,703 and McGrath-Mulherene netted 5,513.
