Friedberg JCC in Oceanside to host Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Good

Posted

The Friedberg JCC in Oceanside will honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by serving those in need and welcoming families to come together virtually on Monday for its MLK Day of Good.

“It’s Time for Good”: a day of learning, action and pursuit of justice is a project of the UJA-Federation of New York. For the past two weeks, community members, staff and volunteers at the JCC have been creating homemade tote bags made rom T-shirts to prepare for special deliveries that will be made to community members in need.

Beginning at 1 pm, volunteers will deliver (tote) bags of kindness,  filled with snacks, a special greeting card, and a Stop & Shop gift card valued at $75 to families in Oceanside, Lynbrook, Baldwin, Rockville Centre, Long Beach and Island Park.

The JCC will begin the day of service at 11:45 a.m. with a virtual children’s program, where parents, grandparents and families can create a project, discuss and listen to a story about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day and its meaning.

“We are thankful for the opportunity to serve the community, especially today," JCC Execiutive Director Roni Kleinnma said in a news release. "More than ever, our communities need kindness, understanding and unity. There’s never been a more important time for good."
