Glen Cove Police Department investigating Leo’s Deli robbery

Glen Cove Police Department officers are investigating a Monday night robbery of Leo’s Deli located on Glen Cove Avenue.

Detective Lt. John Nagle of the Glen Cove Police Department said that likely between 10:30 and 11 p.m. on Monday night, the Leo’s Deli front door window was shattered giving the individual or individuals involved a passage of entry into the deli, where they stole money from the small business.

“Right now, we’re investigating the case, so we’re going over all the leads that we have, that includes surveillance video” and evidence found in the building, Nagle said.

Though Glen Cove is a low-crime area, burglaries like this have increased in Nassau County. It is unclear if those involved in the robbery are local or an out-of-towner.

“We have faith in our community that no one would do this to us because we’ve been in Glen Cove for over 20 years and we’ve always been there for our community since day one,” said Isaac Cruz, who helps run the family business. “Nothing of value was really stolen, it was more so property damage. We got a lot of support from our community and we’re very thankful for that. It is what it is. It was really unfortunate what happened, but luckily no one got hurt.”

For small business owners, Nagle recommends making sure surveillance cameras are on at all time and lighting up the premises of the building so that officers working night shifts can see if there are any signs of criminal activity, such as a broken window, while they do their rounds.

He also recommends reporting any suspicious activity to the Glen Cove Police Department. Those with any information relating to the Monday night robbery should call (516) 676-1002 or (516) 676-1000.
