College credit course information and cost

•Introduction to Sociology: $290 for three credits

oThis one-semester course would be running in partnership with LIU Post and the Glen Cove City School District. Students will be encouraged to learn and think about the social world, themselves and the inter-relationships between themselves and the social world.

•College Human Anatomy and Physiology: $290 for four college credits

oThis is a full-year course for students in grades 10 through 12 and would run in partnership with LIU Post. The course would allow students to earn both high school and college credit, or just high school credit. Students can yield up to eight college credits. Through classroom and laboratory experiences, students will study the structure of the human body, including basic biochemistry, cell structure, cell division, cell respiration, among other subjects. The pre-requisites to this course are Living Environment and chemistry. Students can take chemistry while taking this college course. Whether to include this course in the curriculum will be voted upon at the Jan. 13 Board of Education meeting.

•College Health Sciences and Professions: $290 per three college credits

oThis is a full-year course for students in grades 10 through 12 and would run in partnership with LIU Post. Students can earn high school credit and up to six college credits. Through multiple experiences, students would learn about human diseases and pathologies, medical innovations, current events and social issues in health care, an introduction to various professions in the health care industry, an overview of health care systems, among other aspects of health care. At this time, it was suggested that a pre-requisite be required in Living Environment.
