Valley Stream residents can beat the extreme heat this weekend at the village’s three cooling centers.

The Community Center and the Fireman’s Field Clubhouse will be open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., and the Henry Waldinger Memorial Library will be open on Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Additionally, the Valley Stream Pool Complex will be open every day this weekend until 10 p.m., as the excessive heat warning is in effect.

According to the National Weather Service, this extreme heat with temperatures above 100 degrees, can cause heat stress or heat stroke, as well as illness and death for seniors and those with chronic illnesses. It recommends that residents wear light-weight and loose-fitting clothing, and drink “plenty of water.”
