A staff member at the Alden Terrace School and two students at the John Street School have tested positive for the coronavirus, according to Elmont and Franklin Square school district superintendents.

Al Harper, superintendent of the Alden Terrace School, noted that the staff member became symptomatic three days before schools closed, but it is unlikely, according to the Nassau County Department of Health, that any other students or staff members were exposed.

“At this time, the DOH is not directing any further action or investigation, and is not requiring any notifications,” Harper wrote in a letter to parents on March 23.

Jared Bloom, superintendent of the Franklin Square School District, also noted that the case is being investigated by the DOH, and reminded residents to:

  • Stay at home as much as possible.
  • Stay at least six feet away from others.
  • Use good hygiene at home, including frequent handwashing and disinfection of surfaces.
  • Monitor yourself for symptoms, especially fever and contact your healthcare provider if you show signs of illness.
