An Elmont woman pleaded guilty on Feb. 27 to manslaughter, assault and driving while intoxicated in a crash that killed a 65-year-old man last year. She is expected to be sentenced to between three and one-third years to 10 years on the manslaughter charge, and seven years on the assault charge.

According to Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas, Julie Debrose, 31, was driving north on Meacham Avenue on Feb. 17, 2019, when her 2017 Honda Civic struck a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier in the driver’s side door as it was turning south onto Meacham Avenue off B Street.

Nassau County police officers then responded to the scene, and rushed 65-year-old Michael Saudo, the driver of the Cavalier, to Nassau University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead from the injuries he sustained in the collision.

Further investigation, Singas said, revealed that Debrose was driving 88 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour zone. She was driving home from a party in Queens to Elmont at the time, Singas noted, and had a blood alcohol concentration of .14 approximately 90 minutes after the crash.

“This crash was not an accident, it was a preventable criminal act, and we extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Saudo’s family,” Singas said.

Saudo was driving home from work at the time of the crash and is survived by his adult children.

Debrose, meanwhile, is due back in court on May 5.
