A horse at Belmont Park died on July 30, after a former employee allegedly let her out of her barn stall.

According to Nassau County Police Department officers, Ramzan Antooa, of Elmont, was observed “deliberately releasing a 2-year-old female horse” at around 7:45 p.m. The mare then fell on the street pavement, causing her to suffer fatal injuries.

Detectives said they were informed that Antooa was not allowed inside the barn, and following a thorough investigation, Antooa, who was still at the scene, was arrested. He was charged with third-degree burglary and reckless endangerment of property.

Antooa was arraigned on July 31, and is due back in court on Sept. 21.
