Woodmere resident wins stamp contest

Posted

Stewart Lyons, of Woodmere, was the winner of Linn’s Stamp News June philatelic line contest. His stamp, like many submissions avoided today’s political controversies, and used the knowledge that President Franklin D. Roosevelt was an avid and informed stamp collector. Linn Stamp News is an American weekly magazine devoted to stamp collecting.

The June contest’s entries revolved around the theme of having Roosevelt say something that he might have said as a caption for the cartoon that included the 32¢ FDR stamp issued in 1998 as part of the 1930s Celebrate the Century series of stamps. In the stamp illustration, FDR is seen delivering one of famous fireside chats on radio.
