Vintage vehicles, Cadillacs at Rock Hall

If you walked around the Vintage Antique Fun Car Show at Rock Hall Museum in Lawrence on June 23, you saw at least 60 cars, according to Howard Fishman from the Chevrolet Club of America, Queens County Region that presented the show.

One of them was Queens resident Uly Reid’s 1957 cherry red Chevrolet Bel Air that he restored. In the trunk rested a model of the same car. Previously he had a 1972 Oldsmobile. He said that working with cars is a huge part of his life. “You get to meet many different types of people,” Reid said about attending car shows.

Bob Groenery, from Massapequa, was polishing his 1972 Cadillac Coup deville. He saw it outside of a restaurant. “It stopped me right in my tracks, and I had to have it,” he said. “I call it the ‘Black Pearl’ because to me it looks like a pirate ship.”

Rock Hall Museum staff chose of the winners of the “Best Car” contest. John Ogno’s 1957 Ford Thunderbird captured first place. Greg Cioffi’s 1953 two-door Buick placed second and Frankie D’Amore’s 1984 Cadillac Eldorado convertible took third.

“I remember the size the cars once were and I used to drive them,” said Cedarhurst resident Joseph Fuller as he walked about the show.
