Running for Community Chest South Shore in Atlantic Beach

Community Chest South Shore hosted its annual 5K Run and Family Walk in Atlantic Beach on Sept. 2. There were 171 runners and several people that strolled along, and even a few with their dogs.

Pablo Hernandez was the first participant to cross the finish line. The 17-year-old was clocked at 17:04.40. Woodmere resident Evan Small, twice Hernandez’s age, placed second with a time of 19:19.71. Brooklynite Anna McCusker, 38, was the first woman to finish and was third overall in 20:21.55.

Cedarhurst-based Community Chest serves as an umbrella charitable organization that raises money for the Five Towns Community Center, the Five Towns Early Learning Center, the Tempo Group Inc., and the Center for Adult Life Enrichment. It also helps individuals and families who face a variety of hardships through Neighbors Helping Neighbors.
