Miller calls for possible Cuomo impeachment

State Assemblywoman Melissa “Missy” Miller (R-Atlantic Beach) is part of the growing number of elected officials who initially called for Gov. Andrew Cuomo to resign in the wake of at least half a dozen allegations of sexual harassment by woman, five of whom worked for the state.

Now, Miller joined the Assembly’s Minority Conference of Republicans in introducing a resolution to impeach Cuomo. The resolutions calls for a simple vote in the Assembly. If passed, the process would move to the State Senate for an impeachment trial.

“Over the weekend two more women bravely came forward and shared that they were also sexually harassed by Gov. Cuomo,” Miller stated in a March 8 news release. “This brings the
number of women who have bravely come forward to five. No person should be uncomfortable in their workplace. It’s completely unacceptable that the governor refuses to resign from his position.”

Miller added that as the state deals with such vital issues as the continued impacts from the coronavirus pandemic and the work on the budget, the state needs a “governor who isn’t plagued with multiple scandals,” referring to the fallout from the kerfuffle over the nursing home data and how allegedly the state manipulated the figures related to deaths in those facilities.

“The time to resign is now,” Miller stated. “The governor himself has previously said he refuses to resign. We need to move forward with the impeachment resolution immediately. His coverup on data regarding Covid-19 and our state’s nursing home is reason enough to move forward in impeachment proceedings.”
