Lawrence village welcomes new trustee Jeff Landy

Except for his college years and three years in Woodmere, newly appointed village Trustee Jeff Landy has lived most of his 44 years in Lawrence.

A married lawyer who owns an attorney recruiting firm, the Addison Group Inc., was plucked to replace Daniel Goldstein who resigned from the board last month. Landy will complete Goldstein’s unexpired term and then could run for election next year.

“I have been a resident off and on for a vast majority of my life,” Landy said. Now I’m raising five children in this neighborhood and I want to give back to the community and make the village a better place for my children to grownup in and give them some kind of the idyllic experience I was fortuitous to have.”

Growing up in Lawrence, Landy attended the Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway. He then earned his bachelor’s degree at Cornell University in upstate Ithaca. The law degree was attained at Cardozo School of Law in Manhattan.

Starting out as a lawyer, Landy then got into legal recruiting in 2010, matching high-caliber experienced attorneys with major law firms, Fortune 500 companies, financial institutions and hedge funds.

Landy said that he is looking forward to helping restore the dignity and collegiality of the village board and continuing the improvements being made at the Lawrence Yacht & Country Club and building the proposed swimming pool at the country club. He said that the club is “coming back in a great way,” and called Edelman an “incredible mayor.” “He is a good guy,” Edelman said, an all around great guy, very community oriented.”

Appointed to be the board’s sanitation commissioner, a liaison with Sanitary District 1 that picks up the trash and recyclables in Lawrence, Landy said he asked for that post. “I  happen to have a very strong affinity for the hard work and dedication these guys put in,” he said. “I love the guys that come by my house. I’m friendly with them. They are the backbone of our community, the unsung heroes. They work hard out there early in the morning. We’re safe and clean because of them. I’m looking to working with George (Pappas) and do whatever I can.” Pappas, the mayor of Atlantic Beach, is the sanitary district’s superintendent.
