Lawrence High School sophomore Jose Sandoval was struck by a car at the intersection of Arlington Place and  Peninsula Boulevard in Cedarhurst after leaving soccer practice close to 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 28, according to Lawrence School District Superintendent Dr. Ann Pedersen and the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department.

Sandoval was airlifted to Cohen Children’s Hospital in New Hyde Park about 30 minutes later, Pedersen said. “We are praying for him and his family,” she said, adding he suffered a broken arm and no internal injuries.

LCFD reported that medics from their department and Hatzalah Ambulance moved Sandoval to the high school football field before he was placed in the Nassau County police helicopter. Details of the accident are unclear. The driver of the vehicle that struck Sandoval was reported to be 20-years-old.
