Responding to the Carvana at 40 Sheridan Blvd. in Inwood at 12:40 a.m. on Jan. 8, Nassau police found the garage door open and several lights on inside. As they checked the building a silver Infiniti inside the closed lot crashed through the locked fence and turned right onto Sheridan Boulevard, police said.

Stopping the vehicle near the intersection of Doughty Boulevard and the Nassau Expressway, a man got out of the Infiniti and shouted, “shoot me, you’re going to have to shoot me.” According to police, they de-escalated the situation and arrested Eric Lawson, 24, of Miller Avenue in Brooklyn, without the situation becoming violent.

Lawson is charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief, third-degree grand larceny, fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, fourth-degree criminal mischief and the unlawful fleeing of a police officer. Arraigned in Mineola on Jan. 9, he was released on his own recognizance. His next court date is Jan. 20. Lawson is being represented by Seth Koslow.
