Hewlett resident a Woman of Distinction

Hewlett resident Celina Bialt was among the 10 women that State Assemblywoman Judy Griffin (D-Rockville Centre) recognized as part of her inaugural Women of Distinction awards ceremony at the East Rockaway Memorial Park band shell on Aug. 7.

A master teacher for 30 years, Bialt, taught hundreds of Hewlett-Woodmere students, and when she retired many of them, now adults, contacted her to thank her for making a difference in their lives. She also was pivotal in maintaining the district’s teachers union, advising colleagues and helping to negotiate contracts.

“Today is dedicated to women within our vibrant community who consistently show up and strive to make a positive impact in their community,” Griffin said “This year, I am happy to recognize these honorees who have gone above and beyond and continue to be a light within their respective communities and a role model to all.”

Other honorees included: Kim Taylor from Baldwin, Mary Murphy from East Rockaway, Gaby Castillo from Freeport, Leslie Deninno from Lynbrook, Maria Casini from Malverne, Janet Pearsall from Oceanside, Tjuana Evans from Rockville Centre, Trish Schields from South Hempstead, and Rachel Fryman from West Hempstead.
