Nine Hewlett High School students showed their appreciation for first responders with a virtual thank you message.

The sophomore students sent a video message to healthcare workers, first responders and essential personnel thanking them for their work in keeping the Five Towns community safe during the coronavirus pandemic.

The students filmed themselves via zoom and held up thank you notes to the camera to show their gratitude.

“We greatly appreciate the sacrifices you make each and every day to keep us safe and healthy,” the students said in the message. “Your strength and devotion to the community has left an impact on our lives and we hope that you continue to stay safe during this time.”

The video was a part of State Sen. Todd Kaminsky’s (D-Long Beach) ‘Project Gratitude’ initiative where students from throughout the 9th district were encouraged to create personal notes of thanks that would be distributed to workers on the front lines of the pandemic.

“A huge thank you to the Sophomore students at Hewlett High School for putting this endearing video together and sending this message of gratitude,” Kaminsky said. “It is truly inspiring to see our students come together to support our essential workers, healthcare professionals and first responders. What a great lesson in civics and citizenship.”

Hewlett High class of 2022 advisors, Laura Frauenberh and Joe Virgilio, said the students had been brainstorming ways to not only stay connected with their teachers and families, but also their community.

“Although they weren't able to physically thank all our frontline and essential workers, they came up with a way to share their appreciation for those who sacrifice on behalf of others,” they said. “Stay strong, have hope and we are in this together.”
