Hama’agal program gets started

Posted

Hama’agal, the new adult Friendship Circle recreational program for adults with developmental delays, held its inaugural event on Dec. 30, with 15 adult participants along with seven volunteer advisers at Dave and Busters, then a Sunday dinner at Ahuva’s Grill.

Hama’agal, is men and women in their 20s and 30s with developmental delays. It’s designed to provide high-functioning adults with a social outlet through travel and recreational activities.

The program uses the model used by the Friendship Circle (a program of the Chabad of the Five Towns) and completes the circle — ma’agal — the Hebrew word for circle for adults with developmental disabilities. Hama’agal is the brain child of the Horowitz family, and is being supported in memory of their wife and mother Rebbetzin Rita Horowitz, who dedicated more than 30 years to her congregants, taught special needs students and helped , them build their self- esteem by developing their creative side.
