Getting back to the activities and studying, and hello to Chromebooks at Lawrence High

Posted

It has been a relaxing few months since the end of the school year back in June. However, summer break has officially come to a close, and the students at Lawrence High School are eager to see their friends and teachers again as classes resume.

The hallways are once again filled with the animated chatter of students comparing schedules, finding their brand new classes and listening to each other’s summer vacation stories. Before we know it, both the incoming freshmen and returning upperclassmen will be comfortably immersed in the school environment again. Senior class President Bhawan Sandhu says that she’s “really looking forward to being a senior this year, especially because of the new Chromebooks!”

Sandhu was referring to the new technological additions that are beginning to find their way into the classrooms. This year is especially exciting because the district has decided to provide each student with their own Chromebook to use throughout the year. Teachers have been encouraged to integrate technology with their lesson plans by using Google Classroom as a way to share class notes, remind the students about homework assignments and foster easy communication between class members.

Select classes have also received new Google-powered smart displays that can connect to the students’ laptops, allowing them to monitor classroom activities easily. The integration of technology in the staff’s teaching methods are sure to make lessons more engaging and fun for students, while also improving the classroom experience for teachers.

In the coming weeks, the student body is looking forward to a number of events at the high school. The fall varsity and junior varsity sports are starting up again, and the students are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to support their peers at volleyball matches and soccer games, as well as cheering for the Lawrence Tornadoes led by head coach Jason Supple in all of the football games leading up to Homecoming on Oct. 19. When it comes to school pride, Lawrence High School students are a force to be reckoned with.

Between all of the clubs, college preparation and studying, the Lawrence High students are going to be hard at work once again as the new school years is under way. Despite all this, everyone is more than ready to embrace the workload and enjoy the memories being formed in the halls of our great school. It’s definitely going to be an exciting year at Lawrence.
