Blakeman to oppose Curran for Nassau County executive

Town of Hempstead Councilman Bruce Blakeman, who represents the 3rd Council District, is the pick of the Nassau County Republicans to run against County Executive Laura Curran, a Democrat, in November.

Blakeman, a Valley Stream native now living in Atlantic Beach, previously served as a councilman 1993 to 1995 and presiding officer of the County Legislature from 1996 to 1999. In 1998, he ran for New York City comptroller and lost.

He was a commissioner for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey from 2001 to 2009. In 2010, he ran for the U.S. Senate and lost. Four years later, he ran for Congress and lost. In 2015, he returned to serve as a councilman.

A lawyer, Blakeman served as senior fellow of Long Island University’s Homeland Security Department.
