Appreciating each other, taking pride in performing

Posted

The month of February is a great time for students who attend Lawrence High School to remember the people and things that they love. Those with significant others and close friends will use Valentine’s Day as a way of showing appreciation for one another, while those who love football will tune in to the Super Bowl to cheer for their favorite team (or their favorite halftime performer). Regardless of who (or what) is being celebrated, there is no doubt that love will be in the air these next few weeks.

Many students who attend Lawrence High are extremely gifted when it comes to singing and dancing, and they have chosen to express their love for their art by performing in the annual Love Your Life Concert. The concert, which will take place on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m., is sponsored by the sophomore class and features music ranging from soulful ballads to upbeat pop songs. Teachers and classmates alike love to come out and support the performers as they either return to the spotlight or step out of their comfort zones. This year’s production will no doubt be even more spectacular than the last one.

Some of the students performing in the Love Your Life concert are also a part of “Shrek the Musical,” the high school’s Broadway showcase for this year. Stunning vocals, amazing choreography and meticulous set design will come together to bring the story of a reluctant hero to life.

Those who love to perform will be putting their hearts and souls into creating a hilarious experience for the audience to enjoy. The show will take place on Thursday, Feb. 6 and Saturday, Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m., with a performance at 2:45 p.m. for students on Friday, Feb. 7. With tickets priced at $10 (or $5, if you are a Lawrence student that attends the Friday production), there’s no reason not to treat yourself to what will likely be a phenomenal event.

There is more than enough love to go around this month as students take extra time to appreciate the people they have in their lives, and the variety of performances that are coming up in the next few weeks demonstrate that there is also more than enough to do. Lawrence has a knack for fostering creativity in its students, so it’s no wonder that its halls are full to the brim with such talent.
