The Malverne Fire Department, under the command of Chief Richard Bopp, responded to a house fire in Franklin Square on Wednesday night. The home, on Park Lane North, was struck by lightning shortly before 8 p.m. during a thunderstorm.

Malverne firefighters, accompanied by fire departments from surrounding communities, fought the fire on the second floor of the home. At one point, the fire could be seen blowing out of an upstairs window as firefighters made their way up the stairs to put out the flames. Firefighters were at the home for about two hours.

No injuries were reported.
