Franklin Square Civic Association to host second Community Yard Sale

More than 40 Franklin Square community members are expected to sell their unwanted goods at the Franklin Square Civic Association’s second Community Yard Sale at Rath Park’s pool parking lot on Sept. 21 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“It brings the community together,” said Jon Israel, a civic association board member, “and gives people the opportunity to have a garage sale and get more foot traffic than they would” if they held their own.

He added that the vendors must bring their own tables to display their merchandise and pay a small fee to reserve their spot. The fee, Israel said, allows the civic association to obtain the necessary permits and insurance, as well as funds all of the advertising for the event.

The vendors, meanwhile, get to keep all the money they make from their sales.

The civic association held its inaugural community yard sale in May, after which, Israel said, residents asked if it would sponsor another one. “The event was very successful in May,” Israel said. “We had a great turnout, and we are expecting a great turnout for this next event as well.”
