Franklin Square schools to adopt hybrid program for the week

The Franklin Square School District will be offering a hybrid learning program for the remainder of the week, after a bus driver tested positive for Covid-19, Superintendent Jared Bloom announced on Dec. 14.

Any student who walks to school or can be dropped off will be allowed to attend school on the 15, he said, and the district will offer a streaming option this week only, for students who cannot get to school without transportation services. The first online session will begin at 9:45 a.m. using a classroom link provided by each students’ teacher, and students are encouraged to work independently when they are not receiving direct instruction.

Students who will be attending school in person must arrive and be picked up at their designated times, and any family whose children will learn remotely on Dec. 15 can order lunch using the Choosi application. All lunch orders can be picked up from the Washington Street School between 10:30 and 11 a.m.

“While I understand the last 24 hours have been difficult for our community, it is important to note that my team and I have tried very hard oer the past few weeks to keep our schools open and avoid any large-scale closures,” Bloom wrote in his announcement to the community. “With that said, the next few weeks are going to be challenging, and tere may be times when a class, school or the district needs to close due to contact tracing or other unforeseen circumstances.”

Anyone who needs to quarantine will be notified by the Nassau County Department of Health.
