A longtime bus driver ad transportation director for the Franklin Square school district died from complications of the coronavirus on Jan. 9, Superintendent Jared Bloom told community members that day.

Pamela Greenfield was first hired as a bus driver in the district in 1989, and has served as the transportation director and bus dispatcher since 2006. During her tenure, Bloom said, she has improved routing, upgraded the bus fleet and implemented procedures to keep students and drivers safe.

“She treated every student as her own, and every driver as a family member,” Bloom wrote in a letter to Franklin Square families on Jan. 9.

The district will send out information about grief counseling to any staff or community member who may need it, he said, and will keep the community informed about funeral arrangements.

“For now,” Bloom said, “please hug your loved ones and keep the Greenfield family and our Franklin Square in your thoughts and prayers.”

Greenfield is survived by her husband, Vincent, and daughter, Trish.
