Covid cases reported at the Covert Avenue School

Three more Covid cases have recently been reported in the Elmont Union Free School District, according to Superintendent Kenneth Rosner.

He sent a letter to parents on Sept 29 informing them that a parent and an “adult family member” of a student at the Covert Avenue School have tested positive for the viruts, and a second letter on Sept. 30 about a student at the school who also tested positive. The family was instructed to quarantine at home, as was the student and the members of his or her class, who will be learning remotely during the 14-day time period.

Additionally, he said, a family member of the student who tested positive for the virus, who is considered a close contact, is also a student  at the Covert Avenue School, and “Out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to quarantine the teachers and students in those classes as well.”

Rosner added that the building, especially the rooms that the quarantined individuals occupied, have been “thoroughly cleaned and disinfected,” and noted that the district will continue to work with the Nassau County Health Department “and take all necessary precautions to ensure the health and safety of our school community.”
