Overcast New Vision Party sweeps Lynbrook village election
Hawxhurst, Ryder and McLaughlin victorious
When polls closed in Lynbrook on Tuesday and votes were tallied, Michael Hawxhurst retained his trustee seat, while Laura Ryder was elected to the board and William McLaughlin was re-elected as village justice.
All three candidates ran on the New Vision Party line, and Ryder garnered 1,135 votes for trustee, while Hawxhurst received 1,116. They defeated challenger David O’Neill, who ran independently and earned 349 votes. Hawxhurst, who works in finance, was first elected trustee in 2009 and was re-elected in 2013 and 2017.
Hawxhurst called it "an honor" to be re-elected.
“I will work each and every day to continue to earn the trust of every village resident,” Hawxhurst said.
Ryder, a paralegal, realtor and community activist, joins the board for the first time. She offered a "very heartfelt thank you" to those who supported her.
"I am deeply grateful and humbled by their confidence in us," she said. "I look forward to serving our residents and look forward to getting to work."
McLaughlin defeated challenger Josh Margulies, 1,072 votes to 269, for village justice, a position he has held since 2009. He was appointed associate village justice in 1997.
