W.T. Clarke Run with the Rams

The W.T. Clarke high school and middle school community will be holding its eleventh annual Run with the Rams one-mile fun run and 5K on April 13. Runners and walkers alike are welcome to help raise funds for the school’s athletic program and members of the community in need of support. The event kicks off at 8 a.m. at W.T. Clarke Middle School.

Inaugural Chamber of Commerce Easter egg hunt

For the first year, the East Meadow Chamber of Commerce is hosting an Easter egg hunt for the community at Veterans Memorial Park at the intersection of Prospect Avenue and East Meadow Avenue. The event is free of admission and runs from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on April 13. There will be music, entertainment, snacks and, as an additional Easter challenge, children who find golden eggs will receive a extra prize.

Bámbula with Norka Nadal-Hernández and Drum-maker Joe Santiago

Long Island Traditions is teaming up with the East Meadow Public Library to host this event on April 14 at 2 p.m. Joe Santiago is a master Bomba drum-maker from West Hempstead. His drums are used by accomplished, award-winning musicians throughout the country. Bámbula is a New York-based Afro-Puerto Rican group dedicated to the preservation of Puerto Rico’s oldest traditions, Bomba and Plena. The group was founded by dancer, singer, songwriter, and percussionist Norka Hernández-Nadal in 2006. Bámbula’s mission is not only to entertain, but also to help preserve the African traditions brought to the island of Puerto Rico by the Slave Trade. As a people, whatever we have lost, forgotten, forgone, or been stripped of, can be reclaimed, revived, preserved, and perpetuated through the music of Bámbula.
