Hands On Pruning Workshop

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Nassau County is offering a free hands-on pruning workshop on Saturday, Feb. 29 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the East Meadow Farm, at 832 Merrick Avenue in East Meadow. It include a talk on basic pruning techniques, what to look for when pruning, when to prune, tools needed and safety issues when pruning. This will be followed by pruning of select on-site trees and shrubs. This will be supervised by Master Gardeners.

34th Emerald Ball

Join the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick on Long Island for its 34th annual Emerald Ball on Saturday, Feb. 29 from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Carltun on the Park, at 1899 Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow. Entertainment will be provided by the Andy Cooney Band. Cocktail hour starts at 6:30 p.m. and dinner and dancing is from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tickets are $225. A portion of the proceeds will benefit The Lucille A. Fennessy Pulmonary Research Fund and The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

BOLD MYNDS Youth Program

Nassau Community College and Long Island Girl Talk is partnering to bring this program to the Samanea New York Market, the former Source Mall in Westbury, on Wednesdays starting on March 4 at 4 p.m. There is a $35 materials fee. This program is for those in sixth through twelfth-grade. BOLD MYNDS is a mentorship experience that focuses on motivating the youth to embrace their creative side. MYNDS is an acronym for Maximizing Youth’s Nobility, Drive & Success. They encourage young people to be bold, and motivate them to pursue what they want and not let anything, or anyone, hold them back. With thought-provoking activities delivered in a manner that drives the youth to be who they are, do what they love, and think for themselves, BOLD MYNDS is bound to make a difference in their lives.
