Teachers Federal Credit Union, one of the country’s largest credit unions with over 320,000 members, opened its 31st branch on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow on Dec. 10.

The East Meadow Chamber of Commerce celebrated the opening with a ribbon cutting on Jan. 17. “It’s a high density population here,” said Robert Allen, the president and chief executive officer of TFCU. “It’s a very visible spot and a very accessible spot.”

Allen, who lived in East Meadow for 20 years, said that its new branch signifies the company’s continuation into Nassau County, along with the Massapequa and Merrick locations.

It saw a landmark year in 2018 when it opened two branches in Manhattan and one in Queens, added 40,000 members, saw $1 billion in assets and acquired three credit unions: Nikon Employees/ Projector Federal Credit Union, Melrose Credit Union and LOMTO Credit Union.

The company also expanded its client base to allow almost anyone to become a member.
