Malverne’s coronavirus cases continue to rise, with 91 positive cases as of April 16, according to county Department of Health records.

The statistics come from the county Department of Health’s interactive Covid-19 map, which tracks the number of confirmed cases by neighborhood. In addition, there seven conronavirus cases in Malverne Park Oaks. Malverne’s neighboring community, Lakeview, has 83 cases. The map does not include cases pending confirmation by the New York State Department of Health.

The news comes as the county reports a total of 24,358 positive Covid-19 cases since the outbreak began in early March, with 2,464 Covid-19 related hospitalizations and 910 deaths attributed to the virus. So far, 145 people countywide have been discharged after having been hospitalized.

On the same day, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced there were signs that the number of new coronavirus cases was leveling off, and that talks had begun to reopen the economies of New York and neighboring states initially shut down to slow the spread of infection.

“New York believes we have reached a plateau” of new coronavirus cases, Cuomo said. “This is relatively good news in a world of bad options.”

In addition to New York, the states reportedly involved in the talks are Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.
