On a recent brisk Tuesday morning, librarian Elly Reardon colorfully enunciated the passages of various children’s books in the Merrick Library’s garden, keeping the attention of a handful of kids. It was somewhat a return to normalcy, as it was one of the first in-person events the library has held since the Covid-19 pandemic began.
While masks and social distancing are required, the Merrick Library is slowly getting back into the swing of hosting in-person events, with most including story times and craft-making for kids in the garden. Virtual offerings are also in abundance, including yoga, book discussions, guided cooking and more.
“It’s great to see people back in here,” said Dan Chuzmir, director of the library. “We’re thrilled to be on the other side of things, and we’re doing our best to make sure we keep moving in the right direction.”
The library adopted free curbside pickup and home deliveries to keep the community reading, but patrons are now welcome to stop by the library to check out a book or two. Guests can also use the library’s computers or bring their own to access the free Wi-Fi available in the garden.
