Nassau County police officers injured while making arrest in Lynbrook

The Nassau County Police Department arrested a man from Laurelton, Queens for an alleged assault that took place on Monday in Lynbrook.
According to the NCPD, Joshua Mitchell, 23, was arrested after county units and the Lynbrook Police Department responded to a scene at 839 Sunrise Highway in which Mitchell was wanted for criminal contempt.
Upon the arrival of law enforcement, Mitchell ran from the scene and was apprehended after a foot chase, but he resisted arrest. He was eventually placed in police custody and detectives discovered a forged Connecticut driver’s license in his possession.
Two NCPD officers were injured during the chase. One of them suffered an elbow and hand injury, while the other hurt their knee. They were both transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Mitchell is charged with two counts of second-degree assault with intent to cause physical injury to a police officer, second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, third-degree unlawful fleeing of a police officer, second-degree criminal contempt and second-degree aggravated harassment.

Mitchell was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday.
